When we look back on the start of 2020, we won't be able to say it wasn't eventful. The 'sorta' backing down on tariffs by the United States (more on that below) as well as the Covid-19 corona virus wreaking havoc has kept us on our toes. Even the wine world has been affected by all this with a number of events being cancelled, including the massive Prowein. Here we thought Brexit was a crazy ride.

New "Finca" in Terra Alta
The ever-growing "Vi de Finca" certification just saw a new member added to the roster from Edetària, which also makes it the first one to be added in exciting region of DO Terra Alta!
Exports up but wine down, time to play tariff hardball?
This will not be the last European report to make note of a decrease in wine sales for 2019 as the US tariffs have made for a chilling effect overall. But, maybe there's hope in how US wine law is a great deal different than European?
Schiste, Calcaire & the mystery of minerality
A group of Carignan producers up in the Languedoc held this tasting which pitted wines made from vineyard on slate soils against those limestone soils to see if there was a difference. The answer is that it seems like maybe, but you never know in the ongoing debate about "minerality" and wine.
