I am new into wine. I don't consider myself a "wine writer," but I am sharing my wine experience here on Substack. I don't pay for subscriptions yet - I've been testing out several for a while. Yes, the subscription fatigue is real. But what I've learned here on Substack about wine has been amazing.
Anyway - it's interesting to see how tech and decentralization has had an impact on everything - from the obvious things like cable, news, publishing, to things like wine. I go back and forth between pining for the old days and also happy that there are so many options now.
I started at $50/yr; upped it to $60/yr. About 10% of my subscribers are paid. Income far exceeding expectations and I'm just getting rolling. It takes time, persistence, regular posts and overall quality.
I would think that my Substack – Paul Gregutt's NW Wine Guide – would meet all of your criteria. I've published regularly on Substack since 2023, have a significant number of paid subscribers and offer niche coverage of the Pacific Northwest wineries. Please add me to the list.
Absolutely! There were always going to be ones missed in the process which is why it was import to finally have a base list. What's the price? Standard $50?

One thing I like about Substack as social media is that the audience are real readers. And it is a platform for writers not content creators, so it has been nice to get back into reading about subjects rather than being fed content with no depth or context.
I personally pay for four wine newsletters on here.

Well... it's decentralized until a platform 'centralizes' it again like we've seen with Facebook.
This is very true!
